In a certain point of the story, Jerry discovers the New-Age religious feelings that are part of the cuture of California. He starts meditating, doing yoga, adopts a rather ennervating attitude about this new found beliefs and somehow finds balance in it. From what I know, it is something that Gerald, Jerry's counterpart in real life, still does to balance himself.

The scenes where he discovers Yoga are probably the most funny and acid of the whole book, a moment in which he manages to center himself almost egoistcally while, at the same time, irritates everyone around him, his parents included. A sort of tongue-in-cheekiness flow through those pages, but I thought that the discoery of a place to rest and get in touch with the universe were a key moment of those years.

I did a very ethereal piece for this, with my own interpretation (I am not a very religious person, nor new-age oriented) of what the feelings that this inner peace could mean to someone; sampling tibetan monks and gongs was fun.
